Etna, the highest Volcano in Europe: a mountain that has always been the location of a legend. According to Greek and popular legend it leads to hell, a monster that breathes fire, or a forge in which the magical weapons of Gods and heroes are forged. It is the place where Polyphemus, the Cyclops, Giants, the God Hephaestus, and the Centimani (Hundred-Handed) lived.
Looking beyond the well-known volcanic phenomena, Mitoetna (Mythical Etna) is aimed at recuperating the fantastic aspect tied to ancient traditions which could otherwise be forgotten.
It gives an insight into the mind of ancient man, who wasn’t able to explain such terrifying phenomena as volcanic eruptions, and thus personified nature by inventing mythological monsters and figures.
Discover our Myths and Legends of Etna book, which has illustrations made from volcanic rock and sand, or the T-shirt with lava sand to bring “crumbs” of the volcano with you. Along with “Polyphemus” and the DVD they are the first items in a product editorial publications line dedicated to Etna and the fantastic world which surrounds it.
